Big Screen Entertainment Group Announces New Action Adventure/Comic Book Film in Production

Big Screen Entertainment Group (PINKSHEETS: BSEG) has announced that filming of its next feature film, "Sucker," has begun production. "Sucker" is a sci-fi comic-book-esque film, directed and co-written by BSEG's Michael Manasseri and produced by BSEG's Kimberley Kates and Stephen Eckelberry as well as Big Screen Michigan's new team of filmmakers.

Burning through one of the most front-loaded opening weekends on record, A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) boiled atop the box office with $32.9 million on approximately 4,700 screens at 3,332 sites. Beneath Freddy's latest resurrection, Furry Vengeance got razed in its debut, but the holdovers couldn't pick up enough slack for an up weekend: overall business was down around ten percent from the late April weekend last year.

Iron Man 2 rapidly lost altitude in its second weekend, but the potent insurgency of Robin Hood didn't take root enough to usurp it. Plunging 59 percent, Iron Man 2collected $52 million on nearly 10,000 screens at 4,390 theaters. That ranked 14th among the all time top-grossing second weekends, despite the sequel having posted the fifth highest-grossing opening weekend.

In the current era, the second weekend in May is firmly considered part of the summer movie season, and it is usually dominated by summer's first big movie in its second weekend, such as this year with Iron Man 2. The summer movie season creeping so early in the year is a recent phenomenon, and, the further back one goes, the more decidedly un-summer-like movies one will find debuting prior to Memorial Day weekend.
